Oscillating Axle (Rear) - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the crankcase guard.

  2. Remove the power train guard.

  3. Remove the rear drive shaft.

  4. Remove the rear compactor wheels.

  1. Remove bolts (1) and the washers. Remove cover (2).

  2. Remove two bolts (3) and the washers. Remove two bolts (4) and the washers.

  3. Position a suitable floor jack under bottom rear axle guard (7). The weight of bottom rear axle guard (7) is approximately 66 kg (146 lb).

  4. Remove the bolts, the washers, and plate (5). Repeat this step for the opposite side of the rear axle guard.

  5. Remove bolts (6) and the washers. Repeat this step for the opposite side of the rear axle guard.

  6. Remove bolts (8) and the washers. Use the suitable floor jack to carefully lower bottom rear axle guard (7) and remove from the machine.

  7. Use two people to remove upper rear axle guard (9). The weight of upper rear axle guard (9) is approximately 46 kg (100 lb).

  8. Repeat Steps 1 through 7 for the opposite side of the machine.

  9. Disconnect tube assembly (10) from rear trunnion support (11).

  10. Disconnect tube assembly (12) from front trunnion support (13).

  11. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to oscillating axle (14). The weight of oscillating axle (14) is approximately 2015 kg (4440 lb).

  12. Remove nuts (15) and the spacers. Repeat this step for the opposite side.

  13. Remove nuts (16) and the spacers. Repeat this step for the opposite side.

    Typical Example

  14. Use Tooling (A) and the suitable lifting device to lower oscillating axle (14) onto Tooling (B). Remove the suitable lifting device from oscillating axle (14). Use Tooling (B) to move oscillating axle (14) from under the machine.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install oscillating axle (14) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten nuts (15) and (16) to a torque of 450 ± 50 N·m (332 ± 37 lb ft). Tighten nuts (15) an additional 120° ± 10°.
