Start By:
- Remove the heat exchanger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Heat Exchanger - Remove".
- Remove the rocker shaft assemblies and the pushrods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rocker Shaft and Push Rod - Remove".

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Remove the engine speed/timing sensor. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Engine Speed/Timing Sensor".

- Remove cover (7).

NOTICE Do not apply more than
51675 kPa (7500 psi) pressure to the hydraulic puller. The adapters are rated at 6 1/2 tons each and the hydraulic puller is rated at 17 tons at68900 kPa (10000 psi) . If too much pressure is applied, the gear may be damaged. - Install Tooling (B) on camshaft drive gear (13). Apply
51675 kPa (7500 psi) to the puller and hit the screw on the puller with a hammer until camshaft drive gear (13) is free from the camshaft. Remove Tooling (B) and camshaft drive gear (13).Show/hide tableIllustration 9 g00759543 - Remove bolts (14) and thrust washers (15) that fasten the camshaft to the right side of the engine block.

- Repeat Steps 7 through 11 for the camshaft drive gear on the left side of the engine.

Note: Tooling (D) can be installed on the flywheel housing in order to remove the camshaft from the rear. Tooling (D) can also be installed on the front housing in order to remove the camshaft from the front of the engine.
- Install Tooling (D) on the flywheel housing.
- Install Tooling (E) on the end of Tooling (C).
Note: The camshaft for the G3516 Engine has two pieces.
- Rotate the camshaft with Tooling (E). Pull the camshaft out of the engine until a suitable lifting device can be attached. The weight of the camshaft is approximately
82 kg (181 lb) . Remove front camshaft (17) and rear camshaft (18) as a unit.Show/hide tableIllustration 12 g00759552 - Remove bolts (19). Separate the camshafts and remove spacer (20).
- Remove the dowel from the front of the camshaft, if necessary.
- Repeat Steps 14 through 19 for the second camshaft.
