Improved Hose Routing for the Swing Motor and Additional Hose Cable Strap Fasteners are Now Used on Certain Wheeled Excavators {5057, 5459}

Usage:

M316D KMA
Excavator:
M316D (S/N: W6A1-UP)
M318D (S/N: W8P1-UP)
Mobile Hydraulic Power Unit:
M316D MHPU (S/N: KMA1-UP)

Description of Change: An improved routing of the hydraulic hose is now used on certain M316D and M318D Wheeled Excavators. The improved routing of the hydraulic hose increases the life of the hydraulic hose for the swing motor. The improved routing of the hydraulic hose and the cable straps will reduce wear on the hydraulic hose. The improved routing of the hydraulic hose will eliminate movement of the hydraulic hose.

Adaptable To: When the hose is not routed in the correct path premature wear can develop. The cable straps add additional support in order to keep the hydraulic hose in the correct position. Four cable straps are needed to secure the hydraulic hose. One cable strap is used in the engine compartment and three cable straps are used in the main frame. If the hydraulic hose of the swing motor is not routed in the proper path the hydraulic hose will receive premature wear by contacting the tee connection on the swing gear.

Effectivity and Adaptability of the Improved Routing of the Hydraulic Hose
Model     Effectivity     Adaptability

Table 1 lists the effectivity and adaptability for the improved hydraulic hose routing.

The photo represents location (1) of premature wear of the hydraulic hose.

Refer to Illustration 1 for the location of wear on the hydraulic hose.

Refer to Illustration 2 for the location of wear on the hydraulic hose.

The routing of hydraulic hose (2) to the swing motor must be below hydraulic hose (3). See Illustration 2. After the hose has been routed through the correct path, area (4) will contain enough clearance between the hose and the compensator of the hydraulic tank.

The original hydraulic hose is used with the improved routing. The 7K-1181 Cable Strap fasteners are available from your local Caterpillar dealer.
