Removal Procedure

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
Accidental machine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the machine. To avoid accidental machine starting, turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and remove the key. If the machine is not equipped with a battery disconnect switch, disconnect the battery cables from the battery and tape the battery clamps. Place a do not operate tag at the battery disconnect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on. |
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury. |
- Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- Open the engine hood.
- Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the proper draining procedure.
- Loosen clamps (3) and remove hose (1). Disconnect clip (2). Disconnect hose (4) .

- Loosen clamps (6) and remove hose (5) .

- Loosen clamp (7). Loosen clamp (8) at the turbocharger.

- Remove bolts (9). Remove the bracket and tube assembly (10) .

- Disconnect clip (13). Remove bolts (14). Remove four bolts (11). Remove upper fan guards (12) .

- Position upper fan guards (12). Install four bolts (11). Install bolts (14). Connect clip (13) .

- Position the bracket and tube assembly (10). Install bolts (9) .

- Tighten clamp (7). Tighten clamp (8) at the turbocharger.

- Install hose (5) and tighten clamps (6) .

- Connect hose (4). Connect clip (2). Install hose (1) and tighten clamps (3) .

- Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the proper filling procedure.
- Close the engine hood.
- Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
