Timing Gear Cover

Usage:

Remove & Install Timing Gear Cover

Start By:

a. remove front support

b. remove water pump

c. remove crankshaft front seal and wear sleeve

1. Remove the seven bolts that hold the oil pan and the oil pan plate to the timing gear cover. Loosen the remainder of the bolts that hold the oil pan and the oil pan plate in position. Put spacers between the engine block and the oil pan plate gasket to hold the gasket away from the timing gear cover.

NOTE: If the oil pan plate gasket is damaged, remove the oil pan plate. See the topic "Remove & Install Oil Pan Plate" in this manual.

2. Remove bolt (3) from the clip on the oil breather tube.

3. Remove bolts (1), bolts (4), cover (2), and the gasket.

4. Remove bolts (5), cover (6), and the O-ring seal.

5. Remove remaining sixteen bolts (7) that hold timing gear cover (8) in position on the engine. Remove timing gear cover (8) and the gasket from the engine.

NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the timing gear cover.

6. Put the gasket and timing gear cover (8) in position on the engine. Install sixteen bolts (7). Tighten the two bolts at location (9) and location (10) to a torque of 23 ± 4 N·m (17 ± 3 lb ft).

7. Put the O-ring seal and cover (6) in position on the engine. Install bolts (5).

8. Put the gasket and cover (2) in position on the engine. Install bolts (4) and bolts (1). Install bolt (3) that holds the clip on the oil breather tube to the engine.

9. Trim the timing gear cover gasket so it is even with the bottom of the engine block.

10. Put a thin coat of 3S-6252 RTV Silicone Adhesive/Sealant to the bottom surface of the timing gear cover gasket. Remove the shims and install the oil pan bolts. If it was necessary to remove the oil pan plate, see the topic "Remove & Install Oil Pan Plate" in this manual.

End By:

a. install crankshaft front seal and wear sleeve

b. install water pump

c. install front support
