- T6B (S/N: KSK1-UP)
- T9B (S/N: JAJ1-UP)
Description of Change: An improved drive group is now used on the trenchers that are listed above. Several components of the drive group have been improved in order to provide more strength and durability. The auger and the shaft feature a new heat treat process. The auger and the shaft are made from a more durable material. The shaft now uses press fit bearings. The thread length on the shaft is longer. The bolts on the auger's end of the shaft are larger. A washer was added to the threaded end of the shaft.
Adaptable To: This change is effective with the following trenchers: SLW541-UP, KSK260-UP and JAJ1188-UP.
This change is adaptable to first production of the trenchers that are listed. Service parts are available for the former part numbers. Refer to table 1.
Refer to illustration 1 for specifications of the new parts.

Note: Heat the bearing cones (3) to a temperature of 120° to 150°C (248° to 270°F). In order to prevent overheating, the bearing cones must not be allowed to rest on the bottom of the heater. The bearing cones should be suspended on racks or the cones should be suspended on hooks.
Note: Immediately after installation of the second bearing cone, install washer (4), lockwasher (5), and nut (6). Tighten nut (6) to a torque of 175 ± 20 N·m (129 ± 15 lb ft). Rotate the hub and tighten the nut.
