New Expansion Tank for 3116 and 3126 Marine Engines {1354}

Usage:

3116 1SK
Marine Engines:
3116 (S/N: 4KG1-09804; 1SK1-02563)
3126 (S/N: 1ZJ1-00280; 6MK1-00277; 8NM1-04217; 6SR1-00890; 4EZ1-00129)

Description of Change: The current 3116 and 3126 Marine Engines have a new expansion tank assembly that incorporates a flexible mounting system. The flexible mounting system uses heavier brackets that are more durable and resistant to fatigue.

Adaptable To: The 174-3235 Expansion Tank Assembly and the mounting system replace the 100-6171 Expansion Tank Assembly and the 100-6172 Expansion Tank Assembly. The 174-3235 Expansion Tank Assembly and the mounting system will retrofit the listed serial number ranges.

Installation Procedure for the New Expansion Tank

Table 1

( 1 ) mounting hardware that is reused from 100-6171 or 100-6172

Note: If the engine is a 3126 then use Steps 3 through 6. If the engine is a 3116 then proceed from Step 2 to Step 7.

  1. If the throttle control is fastened to the expansion tank assembly, remove the mounting bracket for the throttle control.

  1. Remove the former 100-6171 Expansion Tank Assembly or 100-6172 Expansion Tank Assembly.

  1. Remove the 112-5475 Water Temperature Switch from the front of the water temperature regulator housing.

  1. Install the 9S-8005 O-Ring Plug and the 3K-0360 O-Ring Seal in the water temperature regulator housing.

  1. Remove the 9S-8008 O-Ring Plug and the 3D-2824 O-Ring Seal from the top of the jacket water pump.

  1. Use the 6V-1722 O-Ring Adapter and the 3D-2824 O-Ring Seal and install the water temperature switch in the top of the jacket water pump. Reconnect the harness to the switch.

  1. Install the new 174-3235 Expansion Tank Assembly with the list of mounting hardware in 100-6171 Expansion Tank Assembly or 100-6172 Expansion Tank Assembly.

Note: Use the following part numbers if the throttle control is mounted on the rear of the engine:

    • The 3116 engines use the 7E-9225 Expansion Tank Group with the 7E-7263 Governor Control Mounting Group.

    • The 3126 engines use the 118-5258 Expansion Tank Group with the 117-4741 Control Mounting Group and the 118-5259 Expansion Tank Fastener Group .

Note: Use the following part numbers if the throttle control is mounted on the front of the engine:

    • The 3116 engines use the 7E-9225 Expansion Tank Group with the 7E-7260 Governor Control Mounting Group.

    • The 3126 engines use the 118-5258 Expansion Tank Group with the 117-4740 Control Mounting Group.
