Engine Lifting Bracket - Remove and Install

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Remove the protective covers from the lifting bracket. Mark the location of the lifting bracket for reference upon installation.

  1. Turn OFF the fuel supply to the engine.

    NOTICE

    Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over disconnected fuel system component.


  1. Remove fuel injection lines (1). Use Tooling (B) to plug the openings for the fuel in the cylinder head.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to remove nuts (3) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to lifting bracket (2). The weight of lifting bracket (2) is approximately 43 kg (95 lb). Remove the lifting bracket.

  1. Install a stud protector on each cylinder head stud.

    Note: Store the lifting brackets in a clean, dry place. Do not install the lifting brackets until it is necessary to lift the engine.

  1. Remove the stud protectors from the cylinder head studs.

    Note: Install the lifting brackets between the following cylinders: 1 and 3, 13 and 15, 2 and 4 and 14 and 16.

  1. Apply Tooling (C) to the threads of the cylinder head studs.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to lifting bracket (2). The weight of lifting bracket (2) is approximately 43 kg (95 lb). Position lifting bracket (2) on the cylinder head studs.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to install nuts (3). Tighten the nuts to a torque of 1000 ± 100 N·m (740 ± 50 lb ft).


    NOTICE

    Improper connection of the fuel lines can allow engine damage and/or fire to occur. Ensure that the connectors have the proper seal and the proper torque.


  1. Remove the plugs from the openings for the fuel in the cylinder head. Install fuel injection lines (1). Ensure that there is one O-ring seal for each connector. Tighten the connectors to a torque of 105 ± 10 N·m (75 ± 7 lb ft).

  1. Turn ON the fuel supply to the engine.
