Fuel Priming Pump - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Put identification marks on all hose assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Close the fuel shutoff valve. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7421, "Fuel Tank Shutoff and Drain Control".

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (1) and (4) .

  1. Remove nuts (2) .

  1. Remove fuel priming pump (3) and the O-ring.

    Note: Fuel will drain from the fuel priming pump during removal. Collect the fuel in a pan.

Installation Procedure

  1. Check the O-ring for wear or damage. Replace a worn O-ring or a damaged O-ring with a new replacement part.

  1. Install the O-ring and fuel priming pump (3) .

  1. Install nuts (2) .

  1. Connect hose assemblies (1) and (4).

  1. Open the fuel shutoff valve.
