Pilot accumulator (1) maintains pilot oil pressure in the pilot system in the event of a pump failure. The accumulator also provides oil to the pilot circuit as makeup oil.
During combined operations, the pilot system may need more oil due to insufficient pilot gear pump flow. When the implements are lowered to the ground immediately after the engine stopping, the accumulator supplies makeup oil to the pilot system.
Pilot accumulator (1) stores pressurized hydraulic oil by taking advantage of the compressibility of nitrogen gas in gas chamber (5) .
The pilot oil flows through inlet port (9) and into oil chamber (8). The pilot oil pressure acts upon bladder (7) and the pilot oil compresses the nitrogen gas in gas chamber (5) .
Pilot check valve (3) is located in the passage to the pilot accumulator which is connected to hydraulic activation control selector valve line (4). Pilot check valve (3) prevents pressurized oil from the accumulator from flowing back into the supply line.
