Installation Procedure for the Final Drive on CIPI Undercarriage Arrangements which are Based on 330 Track Type Excavators

  1. Make sure that the mating surfaces of the final drive and the undercarriage frame assembly are thoroughly clean and free of dirt and debris prior to assembly.

  1. Check the condition of the O-ring seals in the ends of pipes (6) and (7) and in hose assemblies (2) and (5). If any of the seals are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  1. Fasten a hoist to the final drive, and put the final drive in position in the undercarriage frame assembly. Be sure that all mounting bolt holes are in alignment.

  1. Put a thin coat of 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound on the threads of twenty bolts (4). Install twenty bolts (4) that hold the final drive to the undercarriage frame assembly. Tighten the bolts evenly.

  1. Connect pipes (6) and (7) to the travel brake valve. Connect hose assemblies (2) and (5) to the travel motor.

  1. Reinstall the access cover over the rear of the final drive.

  1. Check the oil level in the hydraulic oil tank. If necessary, fill the hydraulic oil tank with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for the proper oil viscosity and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check" for the correct filling procedure.

  1. Start the engine, and check the final drive for oil leaks. Shut off the engine.

End By: Connect the track assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Connect" in this manual.

  1. Install the travel motor in the final drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Travel Motor - Install" in this manual.

  1. Make sure that the mating surfaces of the final drive and the undercarriage frame assembly are thoroughly clean and free of dirt and debris prior to assembly.

  1. Fasten Tooling (A) and a hoist to final drive (7). The combined weight of the final drive is 651 kg (1435 lb). Carefully, place the final drive in position on the undercarriage frame assembly.

  1. Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound on the threads of 20 bolts (8). Install 20 bolts (8) that secure the final drive to the undercarriage frame assembly. Tighten the bolts evenly.

  1. Install two plugs (9) in the forcing bolt holes that are located in the undercarriage frame assembly.


    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Install the O-ring seal on elbow (6). Install the elbow in the travel motor. Tighten the elbow to a torque of 40 ± 5 N·m (30 ± 4 lb ft). Make sure that the elbow is oriented properly.

  1. Remove the plugs from the ends of two hose assemblies (4) and (5). Check the condition of the O-ring seals that are used in the ends of two hose assemblies (4) and (5). If the O-ring seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  1. Connect two hose assemblies (4) and (5) to the travel motor.

  1. Remove the plugs from the ends of two tube assemblies (3). Check the condition of the O-ring seals that are used in the ends of two tube assemblies (3). If the O-ring seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  1. Connect two tube assemblies (3) to the travel brake valve.

  1. Check the oil level in the hydraulic oil tank. If necessary, fill the hydraulic oil tank with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for the proper oil viscosity and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check" for the correct filling procedure.

  1. Start the engine, and check the final drive for oil leaks. Shut off the engine.

  1. Install cover assembly (2). Install the washers and four bolts (1) that secure cover assembly (2) to the inside rear of the undercarriage frame assembly. Tighten four bolts (1) to a torque of 130 ± 10 N·m (95 ± 7 lb ft).

End By: Connect the track assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Connect" in this manual.

  1. Fasten Tooling (B) and a hoist to final drive (1), as shown. The weight of the final drive and the sprocket is approximately 312 kg (688 lb). Position the final drive in the frame.

    Note: Make sure that bolt holes (2) for the travel motor are in the correct position.

    Note: Make sure that the motor housing and the frame are clean.

  1. Install bolts (3) and the washers in the final drive. Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 530 ± 70 N·m (391 ± 52 lb ft).

  1. Remove Tooling (B) and the hoist from the final drive.

  1. Lift the side of the machine in order to remove Tooling (A) .

End By:

  1. Install the travel motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Travel Motor - Install" in this manual.
  2. Connect the track assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Connect" in this manual.
