Usage:

Remove & Install Hydraulic Oil Tank

Start By:

a. remove hydraulic oil filter

Fluid Spillage Containment

Care must be taken to ensure that the fluids are contained during performance of the inspection, the maintenance, the testing, the adjusting and the repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to the "Tools And Shop Products Guide, NENG2500" the tools and the supplies suitable to collect and contain any of the fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of the fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the hydraulic system before any of the hydraulic lines or any of the components are disconnected or removed.

--------WARNING!------

1. Release the pressure in all of the implement hydraulic circuits (the boom, the stick and the bucket) before any of the hydraulic lines or any of the components are disconnected or removed, as follows:

a. Fully retract the stick cylinder rod.

b. Adjust the position of the bucket so that it will be flat on the ground when the boom is lowered.

c. Lower the boom until the bucket is flat on the ground.

d. Shut off the engine and place key in the "ON" position. Put the hydraulic activation control lever in the "UNLOCK" position.

e. Move the control levers for the boom, the stick and the swing to all full stroke positions. This will release any pressure that might be present in the pilot system.

f. Return the key to "OFF" position.

g. Slowly loosen the fill plug on the hydraulic tank and release the pressure.

h. Tighten the fill plug on the hydraulic tank. Tighten the fill plug to a torque of 68 ± 7 N*m (50 ± 5 lb ft).

i. The pressure in the hydraulic system has been released and the hydraulic lines and the components can be removed.

2. Drain the oil from the hydraulic oil tank in a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the hydraulic oil tank is 130 liters (34 U.S. gal).

3. Remove two bolts (1) and the washers that hold cover (2) in place. Remove cover (2).

4. Open storage box (3) to remove bolt (4).

5. Remove remaining six bolts (5) from cover (6). Remove cover (6).

6. Remove four bolts (7) to remove cover (8).

7. Remove two bolts (9), the washers and cover (10).

8. Remove eight bolts (12) that secure support (11). Remove support (11).

9. Remove nine bolts (13) and the washers from bracket (14).

10. Remove two bolts (17) from bracket (14).

11. Remove four bolts (15) to remove hydraulic oil tank cover (18). Remove bracket (14).

12. Remove brace (16) by removing four mounting bolts (19) from the side of the hydraulic oil tank.

13. Remove two bolts (20) to remove bracket (22) from the hydraulic oil tank.

14. Disconnect electrical connector (21).

15. Remove tie straps (23).

16. Remove three hydraulic hose assemblies (24).

17. Disconnect electrical connectors (25).

18. Loosen four hose clamps (26) and slide hose (28) off of the hydraulic oil tube (27).

19. Remove hose (29) from the back of the hydraulic oil tank.

20. Remove four bolts (30) and the washers while supporting plate (31). Remove plate (31).

21. Remove six bolts (32) and the washers that secure the hydraulic oil tank to the frame (33).

22. Attach Tooling (A) to the hydraulic oil tank. Using a hoist, lift the hydraulic oil tank from the machine. The weight of the hydraulic oil tank is 163 kg (360 lb).

NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the hydraulic oil tank.

23. Check the condition of the O-ring seals used in the tube assemblies of the hydraulic oil tank. If the O-ring seals are worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.

NOTE: If the hydraulic oil filter needs to be installed on the hydraulic oil tank, refer to the topic "Hydraulic Oil Filter Group" in this module.

24. Attach Tooling (A) to the hydraulic oil tank. Using a hoist, install the hydraulic oil tank in the machine. The weight of the tank is 163 kg (360 lb).

25. Install six bolts (32) and the washers, that secure the hydraulic oil tank to the machine (33). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 270 ± 40 N*m (200 ± 30 lb ft).

26. Install four bolts (30) and the washers that secure plate (31) to the machine.

27. Install hydraulic oil line (29) to the back of the hydraulic oil tank.

28. Slide hose (28) on tube (27). Tighten four hose clamps (26) that secure hose (28).

29. Install two electrical connectors (25).

30. Install three hose assemblies (24) to the side of the hydraulic oil tank.

31. Install two bolts (20) and the washers.

32. Connect electrical connector (21). Install new plastic ties on the wiring harness.

33. Install four bolts (19) and the washers that secure brace (16).

34. Install two bolts (17) that secure bracket (14).

35. Install plate (18), four bolts (15) and the washers that secure it to the machine.

36. Install nine bolts (13) and the washers that secure bracket (14).

37. Install eight bolts (12) that secure support (11).

38. Install two bolts (9) and the washers that secure plate (10).

39. Install four bolts (7) and the washers that secure plate (8).

40. Install six bolts (5) that secure cover (6).

41. Install bolt (4) and the washer, within the storage box.

42. Install two bolts (1) that secure cover (2).
