Usage:
NOTE: The shock reducing valve is located next to the swing drive near the right side of the frame.
Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that the fluids are contained during performance of the inspection, the maintenance, the testing, the adjusting and the repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to the "Tools And Shop Products Guide, NENG2500" the tools and the supplies suitable to collect and contain any of the fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of the fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Start the machine, and fully extend the stick and the bucket. Lower the stick and the bucket to the ground.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in all of the implement hydraulic circuits (the boom, the stick and the bucket) before any of the hydraulic lines or any of the components are disconnected or removed. |
2. Release the pressure in all of the implement hydraulic circuits (the boom, the stick and the bucket) before any of the hydraulic lines or any of the components are disconnected or removed. Release the pressure as follows:
a. Shut off the engine and place key in the "ON" position. Put the hydraulic activation control lever in the "UNLOCK" position.
b. Move the control levers for the boom, the stick and the swing to all full stroke positions. This will release any pressure that might be present in the pilot system.
c. Return the key to "OFF" position.
d. Slowly loosen the fill plug on the hydraulic tank and release the pressure.
h. Tighten the fill plug on the hydraulic tank. Tighten the fill plug to a torque of 68 ± 7 N*m (50 ± 5 lb ft).
f. The pressure in the hydraulic system has been released and the hydraulic lines and the components can be removed.
3. Oil will drain from the hose assemblies that are connected to the shock reducing valve. Place a drain pan under the shock reducing valve to contain the drain oil.
4. Put identification marks on six hose assemblies (1) that are connected to shock reducing valve (3). Disconnect the six hose assemblies from the valve. Put plugs in the ends of the hose assemblies to prevent oil loss and to keep contaminants out of the hydraulic system.
5. Remove four bolts (2) and shock reducing valve (3) from the machine.
NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the shock reducing valve.
6. Check the condition of the O-ring seals used in the ends of six hose assemblies (1). If the O-ring seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement.
7. Install the shock reducing valve in the reverse order of the removal steps.
NOTE: Refer to the topic "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" in the "Operation & Maintenance Manual" for the proper filling procedure and the proper levels for the hydraulic oil system.
8. Check the oil level in the hydraulic oil tank. Fill the hydraulic oil tank with oil to the correct level.
Disassemble & Assemble Shock Reducing Valve
Start By:
a. remove shock reducing valve
1. Make sure shock reducing valve is thoroughly clean prior to disassembly.
2. Remove plug (6), spring (4), spool (3) and spring (2) from valve body (1). Remove O-ring seal (5) from plug (6).
3. Remove elbow (8) from the valve body. Remove O-ring seals (7) from the elbow.
4. Remove connector (10) from the valve body. Remove O-ring seals (11) from the connector.
5. Remove three plugs (9) from the valve body. Remove the O-ring seal from each plug.
NOTE: The following steps are for the assembly of the shock reducing valve.
6. Check the condition of all parts of the shock reducing valve. If any of the parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
7. Apply clean hydraulic oil to all parts of the shock reducing valve during assembly.
8. Install the O-ring seal in each plug (9). Install the three plugs in the valve body.
9. Install two O-ring seals (11) on connector (10). Install the connector in the valve body.
10. Install two O-ring seals (7) on elbow (8). Install the elbow in the valve body in its original orientation.
11. Install O-ring seal (5) on plug (6). Install spring (2), spool (3), spring (4) and plug (6) in the valve body.
End By:
a. install shock reducing valve
