Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
The 357-9456 Bolts (Lifter Shaft Bolts) may fail on certain C175 machine engines, where one bolt backs out and the other breaks. The lifter shaft bolts failure result in damage to the camshaft which in-turns leads to engine removal.
Solution
Caterpillar is aware of the problem, but an interim repair has not been defined. If failure occurs, replace failed part with same part number.
Create a GDSN Product Health Service Request (SR) with priority of "Product Inquiry / Informational". Add any pertinent photos and detailed failure information (Refer Table 1) for the product group. Mention the CPI number #360407 to the CPI field, (and /or) mention the TIB media number in the description or title (searchable fields). Then close the service request at the dealership without submitting to Caterpillar. This will alert the CPI Team that you have documented this failure in PSCRM.
