785G Off-Highway Truck Caterpillar

Power Receptacle - 24 Volt

Usage:

785G RTL
Engines with Air Start Use the power receptacle to charge the batteries to provide a 24V ECM power supply during engine starting.

Engines with Electric Start Use power receptacle to charge the batteries and to jump-start machine. Refer to "Starting with Auxiliary Start Receptacle - If Equipped with Electric Start" for jump-start procedure.

The power receptacle is located to the left of the control box on the bumper.
(1) Power Receptacle
(2) Battery Disconnect Switch

Power receptacle (1) provides a dedicated 24 V electrical connection for the machine.

Note: When an electrical power source is connected to the power receptacle and battery disconnect switch (2) is in the OFF (disabled) position, the batteries will charge, but the machine electrical system will remain de-energized.

To provide power from terminal to receptacle (power pack to machine) use 457-0880 cable.

  1. Determine the cause of the machine starting failure. Refer to Special Instructions, REHS0354, "Charging System Troubleshooting".

  2. Place the shift control lever in the P position on the stalled machine. Move the hoist controls to the HOLD position.

  3. On the stalled machine, turn the engine start switch to the OFF position. Turn off all the accessories.

  4. Make sure that the battery disconnect switch is in the ON (enabled) position.

  5. Move the auxiliary power source close to the stalled machine. The cables must reach. DO NOT ALLOW THE AUXILIARY POWER SOURCE TO CONTACT THE STALLED MACHINE.

  6. For the auxiliary power source, turn the charging system to the OFF position. Ensure that electrical source is de-energized when making electrical connections.

  7. On the stalled machine, connect the appropriate cable to the power receptacle.

  8. Connect the other end of this cable to the power receptacle on the auxiliary source.

  9. Energize the charging system of the auxiliary power source.

  10. Allow the auxiliary power source to charge the batteries in the stalled machine.

  11. Before starting the stalled engine, disconnect the cable from the auxiliary power source and disconnect the cable from the stalled machine.

  12. Conclude with a failure analysis on the starting charging system. Check the stalled machine, as required. Check the machine when the engine is running and the charging system is in operation.
