A New Special Instruction to Rework Single Main Plate Screed to Dual Main Plate Hinged Screed is Now Available for Certain Asphalt Screed {6640} Caterpillar

New special instruction provides the procedure to convert single main plate hinged screed to dual main plate hinged screed. The single main screed plate flexes in the center when the screed is crowned. The tamper bars do not flex, but instead stay straight, resulting in a change in relative position at the center of the screed. In some instances, this can result in changes to surface finish and possible compaction issues. This is generally only an issue at screed crown settings greater than 2.5 %.

Field Rework Kits and Special Instructions are available including all necessary parts to convert a single sole plate screed to a dual sole plate, hinged screed.

The new special instruction is adaptable to machines within the listed serial numbers.

Note: Once a screed receives this update, some service parts will be unique to that screed going forward. For SE50VT screed serviceable parts, reference update kit part number 522-7636.
