The Product Link PLE742 is a communications system that uses cellular towers to transmit information to Caterpillar, Caterpillar dealers, and Caterpillar customers. The unit contains a Global Positioning System (GPS) cellular receiver.
Note: The time periods that are referenced in this publication are dependent upon the performance of the communications network which may vary at times.
The Product Link PLE742 system is compatible with Cat Datalink® (CDL) or CAN data link. All logged events and diagnostic codes are available to the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) on the CDL or CAN data link. Product Link PLE742 is not compatible with the communication protocol that is used on the ATA data link for on-highway trucks.
The Product Link PLE742 provides the customer with the following information:
- Location
- SMH (Service Meter Hours)
- Geo-Fence capabilities of communication and configuration
- Diagnostic codes
- Event codes
The system allows two-way communication between the equipment and a remote user such as a Caterpillar dealer or a customer. At any time, a user can request updated information from the equipment. Also, the system parameters for the Product Link module can be changed. The information goes from the Product Link system to a cellular tower. The information is sent to the "Caterpillar Main Frame", and on to the user interface, either Product Link Web or VisionLink. The information can be accessed by Caterpillar, Caterpillar dealers, and Caterpillar customers.
The PLE742 system can be set up to report on a regular schedule to the user interface. The schedule can be selected and modified through the "Dealer Services Portal" , depending on the subscription the customer chooses, and the user Interface that displays the data.
Note: The PLE742 system consists of a PLE702 Network Manager and one of two possible radio options: a PL042 cellular radio or a PL641 cellular radio.
The PL641 cellular radio can communicate via a GSM or a CDMA cellular network. The default setting is GSM preferred, however, the radio will automatically switch to CDMA-preferred if no GSM network is found.
The PL042 cellular radio can communicate via a GSM cellular network only.
Geo-Fence is a feature of the Product Link "Elite" system. A Geo-Fence can be set up only through the user interface. Geo-Fence can be set up to send alerts for difference reasons. The sending of alerts depends on the subscription.
Note: For more information on using alerts (notifications) in VisionLink, refer to the VisionLink "Help" web pages.
Note: For more information on using alerts in Product Link Web, visit https://dealer.cat.com/PLselect "General Reference Guides and Videos" then select "Product Link Web Training Guide".
Note: The web site https://dealer.cat.com/PL will require a Caterpillar Web Security (CWS) user name and password.
- Geo-Fence alerts are triggered when the assest crosses a boundary of the Geo-Fence and can be configured to trigger when the asset enters the site, exits the site, or both.
