Fuel System Primary Filter (Water Separator) Element - Replace

Usage:

MH3037 JLH

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death may result from failure to adhere to the following procedures.

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.

Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system.

Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.

NOTICE

Do not fill the fuel filters with fuel before installing the fuel filters. The fuel will not be filtered and could be contaminated. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.

The primary filter/water separator is located on the right side of the engine.

  1. Open the engine access hood on top of the machine.

Note: It may be necessary to relieve residual fuel pressure from the fuel system before the fuel filter is removed. Wait for one to 5 minutes until the fuel pressure has lowered. Use a suitable container in order to catch any fuel that may spill.

Install the New Filter Element

    Typical example

  1. Locate the thread in the new filter element (8) onto the threads (9). Spin on the filter element and tighten the drain valve (2) securely.

  2. Lubricate the O ring seal (7) with clean engine oil. Do NOT fill the bowl with fuel before the assembly is installed.

  3. Do not use a tool in order to install the filter assembly. Tighten the filter bowl (6) by hand. Install the filter bowl (6). Turn the filter bowl clockwise until the filter bowl locks into position against the stops.

  4. Remove the container and dispose of the fuel in a safe place.

  5. The secondary filter element must be replaced at the same time as the primary filter element. Also, the in-line filter must be changed. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Filter - Replace".

  6. Install the new filter by hand.

Instructions for the installation of the filter are printed on the side of each Cat spin-on filter. For non-Cat filters, refer to the installation instructions that are provided by the supplier of the filter.

Note: Do not start the engine until all service to the fuel system is complete. For instructions about priming the fuel system, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime".

  7. Close the engine hood.
