The transmission oil pump is attached to the steering pump. The transmission oil pump is a two-section gear pump. The oil pump has one inlet (3) and two outlet ports. The two outlet ports are the charging outlet (1) and the lube outlet (2).
Main components of the oil pump are cover (7), body (6), gear assemblies (4), and adapter (5).
During operation, oil is pulled from the reservoir of the transmission output transfer gear case. As the gears rotate, oil is pulled into the lower part of pump body at inlet (3). The oil fills the spaces between the teeth of gears (9). As the gears rotate, oil is transferred from the inlet section of the pump to the outlet section. Oil exits the pump at charge outlet (1) and lube outlet (2) as the gears turn. Oil flows to the transmission oil filter from charge outlet (1). Oil then flows from the transmission filter to the clutch control valves. Oil flows to the torque converter from lube outlet (2).
