Transmission lubrication oil is supplied by transmission pump (1). Hydraulic oil from torque converter outlet relief (3) flows through heat exchanger (4). Engine coolant (5) provides cooling for the heat exchanger. Return oil from heat exchanger (4) enters transmission lubrication port (1).

Oil entering passage (1) flows through a formed passage in the planetary group. Part of the oil is directed through drilled passage (A) for lubrication to clutch 1 and clutch 2. Most of the oil will flow through planetary shafts (B) for clutches 3, 4, and 5. Refer also to Illustration 4.
Note: The 826K has no clutch 4, so the 826K has no 3rd gear.

Oil from main transmission relief valve (2) is directed to lube manifold (8). Most of the oil from manifold (8) is directed down for torque converter lubrication. Part of the oil is directed to lube line (6) for clutch 6 lubrication, and lube line (7) for pump drive lubrication. Refer also to Illustration 4 and Illustration 5.

Illustration 4 shows a section view of the transmission planetary. Oil in the formed passage in Illustration 2 flows through planetary gear shafts (B). This oil flows through subsequent planetary shafts providing lubrication to the all clutches except clutch 6.
Clutch 6 is lubricated through lube line (6). Refer also to Illustration 5.
Illustration 5 | g03670738 |
Torque converter lube passage (6) Lube line for clutch 6 (7) Lube line for the pump drive (8) Lube manifold (10) Lube passage for T/C |
Oil from the transmission main relief flows to manifold (8). Manifold (8) divides oil between clutch 6, the pump drive, and torque converter lubrication.
Part of the oil from manifold (8) is directed to passage (6) to lube clutch 6.
Part of the oil from manifold (8) is also directed to line (7) to lubricate the pump drive.
The bulk of the oil from manifold (8) is directed downward through a passage in the torque converter housing. This oil passes through the torque converter to the T/C outlet valve. The T/C leakage (pump drive lube, lockup clutch leakage, and gear and bearing lube), drains to the bottom of the T/C case. This oil then drains into the transmission case and into the transfer gear case.

(11) Cylindrical idler bearing (behind cover) |
The idler bearing on the transmission is a cylindrical roller bearing. Oil from the planetary lubrication inlet also supplies lube oil to the front and rear of idler bearing (11). Passages in the OTG housing and the bearing cage allow oil to the bearings.
