Installation Procedure

1. Install O-ring seal (24) and Duo-Cone seal (23) onto seal carrier (21). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Duo-Cone Seals - Install".

2. Lubricate the axle with clean oil. Install spacer (22), seal carrier (21), and bolts (20) onto the spindle

3. Raise the temperature of bearing cone (19). Install bearing cone (19) onto the spindle.

4. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (18) to −59° C (−75° F) below the ambient temperature. Install bearing cup (18). Use a feeler gauge to check that bearing cup (18 ) is seated correctly. The feller gauge measurement must not exceed 0.051 mm (0.002 inch).

5. Use a suitable lifting device to install brake disc (17). The weight of brake disc (17) is approximately 136 kg (300 lb).

6. Install bolts (16). Tighten bolts (16) to a torque of 2300 ± 300 N·m (1696 ± 221 lb ft)

7. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (115) to −59° C (−75° F) below the ambient temperature. Install bearing cup (15). Use a feeler gauge to check that bearing cup (18 ) is seated correctly. The feller gauge measurement must not exceed 0.051 mm (0.002 inch).

8. Install Duo-Cone seal (14). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Duo-Cone Seals - Install".

9. Use a suitable lifting device to install wheel assembly (6). The weight of wheel assembly (6) is approximately 1719 kg (3790 lb).

10. Lower the temperature of bearing cone (13). Install bearing cone (13)

11. Measure the thickness of retainer (9) and record the measurement as Dimension (X). Install bolts (8). Tighten bolts (8 ) to a torque of 250 N·m (184 lb ft), by 68 N·m (50 lb ft) increments, while rotating the wheel.

12. Loosen bolts (8) while rotating the wheel to ensure that the bearing cones are loose. Remove 4 of bolts (8). Tighten the remaining bolts (8) to a torque of 100 N·m (74 lb ft), by 27 N·m (20 lb ft) increments, while rotating the wheel.

13. Measure the gap between the outer surface of retainer (9) to the end of the spindle. Record the measurement as Dimension (Y). Subtract Dimension (X) from Dimension (Y) and record the result as Dimension (Z) .

14. Remove bolts (8) and retainer (9) .

15. Install O-ring seal (12) onto seal plate (11) .

16. Install seal plate (11). Install a number of shims (10) that is equal to Dimension (Z). Install retainer (9), and bolts (8). Tighten bolts (8) to a torque of 759 N·m (560 lb ft).

17. Install lockwire (7). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Wire and Lockwire Procedure".

18. Connect hose assembly (5) .

20. Install O-ring seal (3) onto cover (2) .

21. Install cover (2). Install bolts (1).

22. Fill the front wheel. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Front Wheel Oil - Change" for the correct procedure to fill the front wheel.

End By: Install the service brake.
