Introduction

This Special Instruction will provide the necessary steps to install a CAT® Water Delivery System on a 785D WTR Truck Chassis. This instruction applies to those systems purchased as a factory attachment.

Read the entire Special Instruction before you order any parts or perform the following procedure.

Note: The CAT® Water Delivery System should NOT be installed on 785D WTR model trucks prior to serial number DMC00169. 785D WTR bare chassis trucks built prior to April 1, 2013 are not equipped with adequate power systems to operate the CAT® Water Delivery System.

Note: All descriptions in this document of the "left" and "right" side of the machine are with respect to viewing the machine from the rear.

Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies.

Note: Before starting, block the wheels with wheel chocks.

Note: Many water tanks include a protective lining on the interior of the tank that can be damaged by welding directly onto the tank.

Note: Before starting, move the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

Note: Lubricate all O-ring seals with lithium grease prior to installation.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. ------ WARNING! ------

The spray of high-pressure water can break the operator station windows and could result in injury or death. Install the water cannon rotation stop to prevent the spray of high-pressure water at the operator station.

  1. Verify safety label (A) is properly installed on water cannon (1).

Note: There are several specific safety messages on this machine. The exact location of the hazards and the description of the hazards are reviewed in this section. Become familiarized with all safety messages.

Note: Make sure that all of the safety messages are legible. Clean the safety messages or replace the safety messages if the words or the images become unreadable. When you clean the safety messages, use a cloth, water, and soap. Do not use solvent, gasoline, or other harsh chemicals to clean the safety messages. Solvents, gasoline, or harsh chemicals could loosen the adhesive that secures the safety message. Loose adhesive will allow the safety message to separate from the machine.

Note: Replace any safety message that is damaged, or missing. If a safety message is attached to a part that is replaced, install a safety message on the replacement part. Any Cat® dealer can provide new safety messages.

    Illustration 175g03682845

  2. Verify the position of rotation and elevation stops (B) for the water cannon turret.

Note: The rotation and elevation stops set the boundaries for the area in which the cannon is allowed to travel.

Note: The cannon is shipped with rotation stops at 90° right and at 90° left. All other positions are achieved by switching the factory set stop and the plug in the desired stop location. Both stops (B) and plugs (C) and (D). have a one and a half inch hex head.

Note: Plug (D) in the illustration is in the front of the cannon.

  3. Install butterfly valve (H) on the tank connection.

Note: Butterfly valve must be provided by the customer. This component is not included with the WDS kit.

  4. Assemble water cannon (1) to the flange mount on the butterfly valve. The front of the cannon should be 45° to right of center line (E). The cannon is shipped with the first stop assembled at 90°. The cannon cannot rotate past the 90° stop and will not point at the cab.

Note: Mounting hardware must be provided by the customer.

Note: If the cannon is mounted in a different location, evaluate the safety of the cannon stops. Ensure that the stops will not allow the cannon to point at the cab.
