Disassembly Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the torque converter outlet relief valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Relief Valve (Torque Converter Outlet) - Remove".

Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring pressure. Spring force will be released when covers are removed. Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be cleaned thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

1. Remove O-ring seals (2) from the outside of valve body (1) .

Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring pressure. Spring force will be released when covers are removed. Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.

2. Remove bolts (3) and cover (4) from the valve body.

3. Remove O-ring seal (5) from valve body (1). Remove plugs (7) and inspect the O-ring seals for plugs (7) .

4. Remove springs (6) .

5. Remove bolts (8) and cover (9) from valve body (1) .

6. Remove O-ring seal (10) and spool assembly (11) from valve body (1) .

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force. Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment. Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.

7. Remove spacer (12) from spool assembly (11) .

8. Remove spiral retaining ring (16), retainer (15), spring (14), and poppet (13) from spool assembly (11) .
