C1.5 and C2.2 Engines for Caterpillar Built Machines Caterpillar

Fuel Contains Water

Usage:

CB-22B 2B2
Use this procedure if the fuel supply is suspected of containing water.

Note: Identifying the presence of water in the fuel by eye may be impossible. Water may turn dark yellow in color in the fuel system. The similarity in color would prevent the ability to differentiate the water from the fuel.

Troubleshooting Procedure

  1. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.

  2. The fuel supply may be contaminated with water. Drain the fuel tank and then fill the fuel tank with clean fuel.

  3. If equipped, drain the fuel/water separator bowl. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Primary Filter/Water Separator - Drain".

  4. If necessary, prime the fuel system. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime".
