Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may cause personal injury. Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area, and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside. |
Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement. Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine. |
Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts. Moving fan blades and moving parts will throw or cut any object or tool that falls or is pushed into them. Make sure no one is working on, underneath or close to an engine that is running. Make sure the area is free of personnel. |
Injury to personnel can result if they are not in the operator's view. Allow only essential personnel near the machine, and make sure the personnel are in the operator's view when testing, to prevent injury. Make sure checks are done in an open area. |
To prevent injury or death, never work under a machine while a test is being performed. |

- Establish a 61 m (200 ft) straight speed test course.
Note: The overall test area must be large enough to allow the machine to reach full speed before the machine passes the starting line. The overall test area must also be large enough to allow the machine to be stopped after the machine passes the finish line.
- Move engine start switch (1) to the START position. Release the switch when the engine starts.

- Operate the engine at low idle for a few minutes. Use throttle control switch (2) in order to operate the engine at 2250 rpm (high idle).

- Monitor the hydraulic oil temperature with Tool (A). Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches 43 ± 5.6° C (110 ± 10° F).
- Move parking brake switch (3) into the OFF position.

- With the machine in high idle, drive the machine to the test area.
- Move propel lever (4) to the NEUTRAL position.

- Place shift switch (5) in the LOW position. Back up the machine far enough to allow the machine to reach full speed before the start line.
- Time the machine through the 61 m (200 ft) course. Record the time as forward speed.
- Repeat the test in reverse. The forward and reverse speeds should be 20 ± 1 second. The recorded speeds should be within 2 seconds of each other.
- Drive the machine with the propel lever at one half of the full range in forward.
- Place shift switch (5) in the HIGH position. Verify that the machine speed increases.
- Move propel lever (4) into the NEUTRAL position. With shift switch (5) in the HIGH position, move the propel lever to one half of the full range in forward.
- Place shift switch (5) in the LOW position. Verify that the machine speed decreases.
- Drive the machine to an appropriate place.
- Move propel lever (4) to the NEUTRAL position.
- Move parking brake switch (3) to the ON position.
- Use throttle control switch (2) in order to operate the engine in low idle.
- Move engine start switch (1) to the OFF position.
