789D and 789D XQ Off-Highway Trucks Engine Supplement Caterpillar

Removal Procedure

1. If equipped with a sound suppression arrangement, refer to Special Instruction, "Installation of 361-2020 Sound Suppression Panel Gp (RH) (If Equipped)" and Special Instruction, "Installation of 361-2001 Sound Suppression Panel Gp (Center) (If Equipped) " for specific panel locations and the correct removal or installation procedure.

2. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

3. Remove nuts (1) and cover (2).

4. Remove O-ring seals (3) and spacers (4).

5. Loosen locknut (5). Rotate alternator (6) in order to disconnect belt (7).

6. Remove bolt (8) to disconnect cable assembly (9). Disconnect wire assembly (10). Remove nut (11) to disconnect cable assembly (12).

7. Remove bolts (13). Remove alternator (6).

Installation Procedure

1. Install alternator (6) in the reverse order of removal.

   1. Tighten bolts (13) to a torque of 88 ± 7 N·m (65 ± 5 lb ft).

   2. Tighten nut (11) to a torque of 6.2 ± 0.6 N·m (55 ± 5 lb in).

   3. Refer to Specifications, "Alternator Mounting".
