Cat® Terrain Office Software Caterpillar

Machine File and Machine Type File

Usage:

- TER
The machine and machine type .mwfoptions enable a user to generate machine and machine type .mwf files. The procedure is simple, and the same for both options. Machine and machine type references are automatically synched to the database when edited in the office software. The Productivity File Settings (or the Cat 2DB database) must be configured in Terrain and the services must be restarted after configuration changes.

Generating Machine and Machine Type .MWF Files

Perform the following procedure:

  1. In the "Control Center", click "Onboard Lists". The Onboard List Configuration dialog displays.

  2. From the drop-down list, select either "Machine" or "Machine Type".

  3. Click the "Generate Machine / Machine Type MWF" icon. The "File Generator" dialog indicates whether the file was successfully generated.

  4. Click "OK". If the file was successfully generated, the "Action Completed" dialog indicates that the MWF request was sent.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Click the "X" in the top right corner of the "Onboard Lists" dialog to close the dialog.

  7. Click "Manage and Transfer Files" in the "Control Center", or click the "File Manager" menu if "File Manager" is open.

The generated file will be in the "Onboard Lists" folder.

Contents of the Machine .MWF File

Perform the following procedure:

The machine.mwf file is used by on-board units to identify other machines whose positions are being received. The file contains the following information of the other machines:

  • Machine ID

  • IP Address

  • Port

  • Machine Type

  • Machine Description

When a position is received from a certain IP address and port number, the on-board unit looks up these values in .mwf file. The on-board unit then displays the appropriate information that is defined elsewhere.

Contents of the Machine Type .MWF File

The machinetype.mwf file contains the machine type and various parameters that define polygons. The polygons, in turn, define an icon to display on the on-board display.

Viewing the Content of .MWF Files

Once .mwf files have been generated and saved, the contents of the files can be viewed on any machine in file manager.

Viewing the Content of a .MWF File

Perform the following procedure:

  1. In the "Control Center", click "Manage and Transfer Files".

  2. Navigate to the "Onboard Lists" folder.

  3. Find the machine whose on-board list .mwf files are to be viewed and expand the folder.

  4. Double-click .mwf file to view. The details of the file are displayed. The information displayed will change depending on the type of .mwf file being viewed.
