A new VIMSTM software tool called VIMS 3G Connect (version 1.0.7) is available for F-series trucks equipped with VIMS 3G hardware only. VIMS 3G Connect is a software program that is used to communicate with a machine using a wired connection. This software tool allows the user to perform the following tasks: download files, configure parameters and view operating parameters of the machine in real time. VIMS 3G Connect is designed to run in a virtual environment with MicrosoftTM Virtual PC 2007. The virtual environment provides a separate instance of the MicrosoftTM XP operating system that is already configured to work with VIMS 3G.
Note: Only install VIMS 3G Connect on computers that are used to connect directly to machines equipped with VIMS 3G.
Caterpillar is paying a license fee for the MicrosoftTM XP operating system that is installed within the virtual environment through 31May 2012. Each computer license has a fee and your help is needed to control costs. Costs will be minimized by only installing on pc's that require a wired connection to VIMS 3G equipped machines.
Note: After installing VIMS 3G Connect, send an email to "VIMS3G@Cat.com" with the following details: your name, company, dealership (if customer), PC serial number and installation date. This step is essential to capture the number of installations.
For repeat installations on the same computer, you do not need to contact VIMS 3G Connect license team. For computer upgrade or replacement, please state such and provide new serial number of computer. When uninstalling VIMS 3G Connect, inform the VIMS 3G Connect license team by using the same e-mail address listed above.
Near the end of the installation of VIMS 3G Connect, you will need to create a VIMS 3G Connect save state file. Launch VIMS 3G Connect and a document will appear guiding you through the creation of a saved state file. Simply follow the 1-page instructions on how to create a save state file.

- RS232 port with 16550AF UART or compatible (for use with Comm Adapter II)
- USB 1.1 or 2.0 port (for use with Comm Adapter 3)
- Built in pointing device or mouse
- The latest version of Internet Explorer®

- 1GB RAM
- 500MB of available hard disk drive
- CD-ROM drive
- Super VGA monitor or display (800x600)

- RS232 port with 16550AF UART or compatible (for use with Comm Adapter II)
- USB 1.1 or 2.0 port (for use with Comm Adapter 3)

Use EERP2001 media number to order VIMS 3G Connect.
For VIMS 3G hardware, use both VIMSpc and VIMS 3G Connect. VIMSpc software is required to perform the following tasks for VIMS 3G equipped machines: merge data files into the database, analysis and create reports. After the machine data is downloaded to a database, VIMSpc software can be used to generate reports. These reports provide a historical record of the operating conditions for the machine, as well as the operating parameters. These reports can be used to monitor machine trends in the work environment and the operation of the machine.
Note: To view continuous data logger reports, you will need to use Version 2009B or later of VIMSpc.
Note: VIMS 3G Connect is not needed to communicate with ABL and 68K VIMS hardware. VIMSpc is used to communicate with all machines with ABL and 68K VIMS ECMs.
