584 and 584HD Forwarders Machine Preheater Caterpillar

Preheater Troubleshooting

Usage:

584HD 109

General Troubleshooting Symptoms

Table 1
Fault     Probable Cause     Remedy
The preheater is switched to the OFF position.     No combustion after start or repeat start of the machine preheater.     Control unit will switch to error lockout. Switch the heater off and on.
Flame extinguishes during operation If a no-heating condition persists contact your Caterpillar dealer.
The preheater overheats due to low coolant level. Replenish coolant. After allowing the unit cool, push the button of the temperature limiter before attempting to restart the preheater or replace the temperature limiter.
Low voltage condition for more than 20 seconds Check all fuses and connections. Check the state of charge of the battery.
Machine preheater switch off caused by the temperature limiter After the unit cools down, push the button of the temperature limiter before restart or, replace temperature limiter.
The preheater does not recognize the flame on startup. Check the monitor for the flame and check the connections.

Note: In many cases, the probable cause of failure may be the burner. Perform a visual inspection of the burner.

ReferenceFor additional information on a visual inspection of the machine preheater, refer to Systems Operation/Testing And Adjusting, "Visual Inspection" for the machine that is being serviced.

Troubleshooting Symptom After Switch-Off

7 Flash pulses F 07 (fuel metering pump)     Wiring     Check wiring for damage, open connections, and short circuits.
The fuel metering pump is faulty. Replace the fuel metering pump.
8 Flash pulses F 08 (combustion air fan)     Wiring     Check wiring for damage, open connections and short circuits.
the combustion air fan is faulty. Replace the combustion air fan.
9 Flash pulses F 09 (glow pin)     Wiring     Check wiring for damage, open connections and short circuits.
The glow pin is faulty. Replace the glow pin.
10 Flash pulses F 10 (temperature limiter)     Coolant circuit     Check the coolant level.
Bleed the coolant circuit.
Reset temperature limiter
Wiring Check wiring for damage, open connections and short circuits.
11 Flash pulses F 11(coolant circulation pump)     Wiring     Check wiring for damage, open connections and short circuits.
The coolant circulation pump is faulty. Replace the coolant circulation pump.

After three consecutive attempts to start the preheater, the preheater and the control unit are locked out. No further attempts are possible.

Once the preheater fault lockout has been eliminated, remove the fuse and wait for 5 seconds. Reinsert the fuse. Switch the heater to ON.
