Description of Change: A new triple lip seal is available for the following applications. The new triple lip seal has an additional lip in order to prevent contamination.
- Center axle of the 725 and 730
- Front and center axle of the 735
- All axles on the 740 and the 735 with the new power train
Adaptable To: The new 293-4503 Lip Type Seal replaced the 162-7183 Lip Type Seal .
This change is effective with the following machines.
- 725 (S/N: B1L1662-UP)
- 730 (S/N: B1M1562-UP)
- 730 EJECTOR (S/N: B1W284-UP)
- 735 (S/N: B1N939-UP)
- 740 (S/N: B1P2639-UP)
- 740 EJECTOR (S/N: B1R348-UP)
Installation of the New Seal

New 293-4503 Lip Type Seal (A) Grease should be packed in this area. |
Use a seal installation tool of the correct size from the 1P-0520 Driver Gp in order to install the new 293-4503 Lip Type Seal .
- Remove the drive shaft and the yoke. Refer to the appropriate Service Manual that is listed at the beginning of this article for the correct procedure.
- Clean the journal of the yoke and inspect the journal of the yoke. If the journal of the yoke is corroded, the journal can be polished. Polish the journal of the yoke with emery cloth. The marks from the polishing procedure must be perpendicular to the centerline of the shaft. The marks on the journal should rotate parallel with the lip of the seal. If the marks from polishing are at an angle to the rotation, the journal can work as threads on a screw. Dirt can be pushed into the transmission and oil can be pulled out of the transmission as the shaft rotates in the forward direction or the reverse direction. If the journal of the yoke has wear marks from the lip seal, replace the yoke.
- Ensure that the bore of the seal retainer is clean and that the bore is in good condition. Clean the bore in order to remove all oil, grease, and adhesive. Inspect the bore. Ensure that the bore is free of grooves that could allow oil to leak past the seal. Ensure that chamfer (1) does not have a sharp edge that could damage the new seal during installation. If the retainer is grooved, replace the retainer. If the chamfer has a sharp edge, use emery cloth to polish the chamfer. The seal relies on a press fit between the outer diameter of the lip seal and the bore of the retainer in order to stay in position. If the dimensions of the retainer bore are changed by polishing, the seal will not be retained properly.

- Apply clean oil that is being sealed to the new outer diameter 293-4503 Lip Type Seal and to the bore of the retainer.
Note: Do not remove the grease that is in area (A). This grease is used to provide additional lubrication. Refer to Illustration 1.
- Position the new 293-4503 Lip Type Seal correctly in the bore of the retainer. Refer to Illustration 3. Use the seal installation tool of the correct size from the 1P-0520 Driver Gp in order to install the seal until the chamfer on the retainer is cleared or the seal bottoms out on the retainer. For the best results, use a hand operated press to install the new lip seal. If a press is not available, use a rubber mallet to drive the seal into position. The rubber mallet reduces the impact that can be seen with a metal hammer.
Note: If the seal bottoms out on the retainer during installation, ensure that the seal has not been crushed or distorted.

- Wait for several minutes in order to ensure that the new seal remains in position on the retainer. Ensure that the seal is not cocked and that the seal will run perpendicular to the centerline of the yoke.
