Cylinders equipped with lock valves can remain pressurized for very long periods of time, even with the hoses removed.

Failure to relieve pressure before removing a lock valve or disassembling a cylinder can result in personal injury or death.

Ensure all pressure is relieved before removing a lock valve or disassembling a cylinder.

  1. Place the boom on Tooling (A). Lower the stick to the ground.

  2. Release the pressure in the hydraulic oil system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".

  3. Disconnect tube assembly (4). Remove clamp (1). Place tube assembly (2) and hose assembly (3) to the side.

  4. Disconnect hose assembly (5) from the head end of the boom cylinder.

  5. Remove grease tubes (6) and (7) from the bottom of the boom cylinder.

  6. Remove bracket (8). Remove bolt (9). Remove shims (10) and hook (11).

  7. Remove spacer (12).

  8. Loosen nut (14). Remove bolt (17) and shims (16). Remove hook (15) and place hook (15) to the side. Cable assembly (13) will remain with hook (15).

  10. Attach a suitable lifting device to boom cylinder (22). The weight of boom cylinder (22) is approximately 165 kg (364 lb). Use Tooling (B) in order to remove retaining ring (20). Remove shims (19) and pin (21).

  11. Remove bolt (25) and plate (23). Remove pin (24). Use the suitable lifting device in order to remove boom cylinder (22).

Tooling (A) is used for the removal and installation of bearing (1). Tooling (B) is used for the removal and installation of bearing (4).

(2) Lubricate the threads. Torque for the nut ... 4200 ± 420 N·m (3097 ± 310 lb ft)

(3) Lubricate the threads with clean grease. Torque for the head ... 600 ± 130 N·m (442.5360 ± 95.8828 lb ft)

(5) Lubricate the seals with the lubricant that is being sealed.

(6) Apply Tooling (E) to the groove of the wiper seal.

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to boom cylinder (22). The weight of boom cylinder (22) is approximately 165 kg (364 lb). Use the suitable lifting device in order to install boom cylinder (22).

  2. Install shims (19) and pin (21). Use Tooling (B) in order to install retaining ring (20). Install pin (24). Install plate (23) and bolt (25).

  3. Install spacer (18).

  4. Position hook (15) and cable assembly (13). Tighten nut (14). Install shims (16) and bolt (17).

  5. Install spacer (12).

  6. Install hook (11). Install shims (10) and bolt (9). Install bracket (8).

  7. Install grease tubes (6) and (7) to the bottom of the boom cylinder.

  8. Connect hose assembly (5) to the head end of the boom cylinder.

  9. Place tube assembly (2) and hose assembly (3) into position. Install clamp (1). Connect tube assembly (4).

  10. Remove Tooling (A).
