- Backhoe Loader:
- 416E (S/N: SHA1-UP; CBD1-UP)
- 420D (S/N: ELZ1-UP)
- 420E (S/N: HLS1-UP; KMW1-UP)
- 430E (S/N: DDT1-UP; EAT1-UP)
Hose assemblies on the backhoe may need to be rerouted on certain "416E", 420E, and 430E Backhoe Loaders. The hose assemblies which are routed through the swing frame may hang below the swing frame. When you operate the machine on inclines, the hoses could drag the ground. The hose assemblies may rub on the swing frame and the hose assemblies may catch on the retainer for the boom, when you swing the backhoe. Hose failures may result.
Also, the hose assemblies may need to be replaced. The new hose assemblies are made of a different material and the hose assemblies are different lengths.

Rework Procedure
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil. Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system. Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. |
Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic systems after the engine and pump have been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic systems. To prevent possible injury, refer to the section, Testing and Adjusting, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" before any fitting, hose or component is loosened, tightened, removed or adjusted. When possible, the bucket or attachment must always be lowered to the ground before service is started. When it is necessary for the boom to be in the raised position while tests or adjustments are done, be sure that the boom, stick and bucket or attachment have correct support. The swing lock (if equipped) must be engaged before service is started. Always move the machine to a location away from the travel of other machines. Be sure that other personnel are not near the machine when the engine is running and tests or adjustments are being made. |
NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
When you replace the hose assembly, use the following tables for the correct replacement of the hose assembly. Refer to the Hydraulic Information System in order to get the correct specifications for fabricating the hose assemblies.
Note: Even though the part number may not have changed, the hose length and material may be different from the existing hose assembly.

Prior to rework, the hose for the head end of the bucket will cross the hose for the head end of the extendable stick before the first grommet (1) .
After reworking the machine, the hose for the head end of the bucket and the hose for the head end of the extendable stick will run parallel to each other. The hose for the head end of the bucket will cross the hose for the head end of the extendable stick after the second grommet (2) .
