With the battery disconnect switch in the ON position, 24 volt power is supplied from batteries (1) through alternator circuit breaker (3) to alternator (4) . When the key start switch is in the ON position, 24 volt power is supplied from batteries (1) via circuit breaker 13 to the Caterpillar Monitoring System ECM.
24 volt power is supplied to alternator (4) from batteries (1) through 325 amp main fuse (2) and 105 amp alternator circuit breaker (3) .
The 105 amp alternator circuit breaker (3) protects alternator (4) and the wiring harness from circuit overload.
When the engine is running at high idle rpm, alternator (4) generates a charge of 26 to 29 volts. A voltage signal is supplied from alternator (4) to the Caterpillar Monitoring System ECM. When the voltage signal is within the normal operating range, the Caterpillar Monitoring System ECM will turn off electrical system alert indicator (5) . When the voltage signal is outside the normal operating range, the electrical system alert indicator will be on, indicating a fault.
