  1. Apply 5P-3931 Thread Compound on the bearing bores in the frame.

  1. Lubricate the sealing lips on seals (1) and (11) with the lubricant that is being sealed. Position seals (1) and (11), and press the seals into bearing caps (4) and (9) .

  1. Cool bearing cups (6) and (8) to a temperature of -50° ± 5°C (-58° ± 9°F).

  1. Position lower bearing cap (8), and retain lower bearing cap (8) in place. Use a second technician in order to retain lower bearing cap (9) in place.

  1. Install lower bearing cup (8) into the bore of the housing. Drive the bearing cup downward in order to ensure contact with lower bearing cap (9) .

  1. Lubricate bearing cones (7) and (10) with oil and install the bearing cones.

  1. Install upper bearing cup (6). Drive the bearing cup downward in order to ensure light contact pressure on the bearing cones.

  1. Install shim (5), upper bearing cap (4), and three bolts (2) with hard washers (3). Install the bolts so that the bolts are 120° away from each other. Tighten the bolts by an equal amount.

  1. Adjust the rolling torque in order to rotate the bearing cones. As required, use shims (5) to attain the correct amount of rolling torque. The rolling torque should be not less than 2.3 N·m (20.36 lb in). The rolling torque should not be greater than 13.6 N·m (120.37 lb in).

  1. Install all bolts (2) with hard washers (3). Tighten the bolts.

(12) Bolt. (13) Spacer. (14) Pin. (15) Upper sleeve bearing. (16) Lower sleeve bearing.

  1. Install sleeve bearings (15) and (16) in the bores of the hitch.

  1. Before pin (14) is installed, cool the pin to -50° ± 5°C (-58° ± 9°F).

  1. Align the bores in the upper hitch and insert pin (14) into the bores.

  1. Install bolt (12) and spacer (13) in order to lock the pin in place.

  1. Tighten bolt (12) .

  1. Apply 5P-3931 Thread Compound on the bearing bores in the frame.

  1. Lubricate seals (3) and (11) with the lubricant that is being sealed. Position seals (3) and (11), and press the seals into bearing caps (5) and (10) .

  1. Cool bearing cups (6) and (8) to a temperature of -50° ± 5°C (-58° ± 9°F).

  1. Position lower bearing cap (10). Install three equally spaced bolts (1) and three hard washers (2) in order to keep lower bearing cap (10) in position. Tighten the bolts.

  1. Install lower bearing cup (8) into the bore of the frame. Drive the bearing cup downward in order to ensure contact with lower bearing cap (10) .

  1. Lubricate bearing cones (7) and (9) with oil. Install the bearing cones.

  1. Install upper bearing cup (6). Drive the bearing cup downward in order to ensure light contact pressure on bearing cone (9) .

  1. Install shim (4), upper bearing cap (5), four bolts (1) and four hard washers (2). Tighten the bolts.

  1. Adjust the rolling torque in order to rotate the bearing cones. As required, use shims (4) to attain the correct amount of rolling torque. The rolling torque should be not less than 1.1 N·m (10.00 lb in). The rolling torque should not be greater than 5.6 N·m (50.00 lb in).

  1. Install all bolts (1) and hard washers (2). Tighten the bolts.

(5) Upper bearing cap. (10) Lower bearing cap. (12) Pin. (13) Top spacer. (14) Bottom spacer. (15) Shims. (16) Retainer plate. (17) Hard washers (six). (18) Bolts (six). (19) Bolts (two). (20) Hard washers (two). (21) Frame.

  1. Install top spacer (13) in upper bearing cap (5) .

  1. Before pin (14) is installed, cool the pin to -50° ± 5°C (-58° ± 9°F).

  1. Install bottom spacer (14) in lower bearing cap (10) .

  1. Install pin (12) into the bores on the lower hitch.

  1. Align the holes in retainer plate (16) with the holes in pin (12). In order to fasten retainer plate (16) to pin (12), install two hard washers (20) and two bolts (19). Tighten the two bolts to a torque of 68 N·m (50 lb ft).

  1. Measure the amount of space between frame (21) and retainer plate (16). Measure all the way around the circumference of retainer plate (16). Determine the minimum amount of space between frame (21) and retainer plate (16). Subtract 0.25 mm (0.010 inch). Install an equal amount of shim (15) .

  1. Install remaining hard washers (17) and bolts (18). Tighten bolts (18) to a torque of 570 ± 80 N·m (420 ± 60 lb ft).
