Window Wiper and Wiper Motor (Rear) - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.


NOTICE

Damage may occur to the splines on the wiper arm assembly during removal. Replacement of the wiper arm assemblies is recommended to ensure that the splines are properly formed to the shaft.

  1. Disconnect hose (2). Remove nut (3) and wiper arm (1).

  2. Remove cap (4), retaining nut (5), and washers (6).

  3. Remove cover (7).

  4. Remove the cable strap and disconnect harness assembly (8). Remove bolts (10). Remove wiper motor (9).

Installation Procedure

  1. Position wiper motor (9) and install bolts (10). Connect harness assembly (8) and install the cable strap.

  2. Install cover (7).

  3. Install washers (6), retaining nut (5), and cap (4). Tighten retaining nut (5) to a torque of 19 ± 1 N·m (14 ± 1 lb ft).

  4. Use the following steps to install the wiper arm:

    1. If a new wiper motor has been installed disregard Step 4.b.

    2. Turn the switch for the rear window wiper to the ON position and then turn the switch for the rear window wiper to the Off position. This will make sure that the wiper motor is in the PARK position. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Window Wiper and Washer Control".

      NOTICE

      Push the wiper arm assembly straight onto the tapered shaft. If the wiper arm assembly is not installed straight when the shaft turns, the splines will be improperly formed and damage will occur.


    3. Install wiper arm (1) so that the wiper blade is in full contact with the rear of the windshield. The end of the wiper blade must be in contact with the windshield. Wiper arm (1) must be positioned to the left side of the windshield when the wiper motor is in the park position. Install nut (3). Tighten nut (3) to a torque of 23 ± 1 N·m (17 ± 1 lb ft).

    4. Wait for at least thirty minutes. Do not wait for more than four hours. Tighten nut (3) again to a torque of 23 ± 1 N·m (17 ± 1 lb ft).

    5. Connect hose (2).
