Roading the Machine

Usage:

AP-1055D A6P
Roading refers to propelling the paver or maneuvering the paver without laying asphalt.

Note: Do not allow riders on the screed when the machine is roading.

Note: Do not allow riders on the operator's platform unless the rider is in the extra operator's seat. All riders must have a fastened seat belt.

Check with the proper officials in order to obtain the required licenses.

Check all local traffic regulations. Obey all local traffic regulations.

Investigate the travel route for overpass clearances. There must be adequate clearance.

------ WARNING! ------

Unexpected parking brake application may occur going down ≥6% slopes in TRAVEL mode. Operate the machine in PAVE mode while travelling down slopes. Failure to follow these instructions could result in an overspeed condition, loss of control and/or sudden stopping by the secondary (emergency) braking system which could cause serious injury or death.

  1. Perform a walk-around Inspection. Measure the fluid levels in the various compartments.

  2. Adjust the width of the screed in order to fit the terrain.

  3. Raise the screed. Extend the screed travel lock pins. Lower the screed on the lock pins. Refer to the Screed Travel Lock in the Operation Section.

  4. Install the required flags, required signals, or required lights.

    ------ WARNING! ------

Moving the machine before all personnel are clear of the machine could cause personal injury. Sound the horn for several seconds before moving the machine.

  5. Start the engine. See the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Starting" for the proper starting procedure.

  6. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Changing Speed and Direction" for information on moving the machine.

Screed Travel Lock

------ WARNING! ------

In order to prevent personal injury from accidental screed movement, lock the screed in the RAISED position by using the travel lock lever in order to extend the lock pins, after the screed is fully raised.

There are two levers on the machine. The levers are located behind the final drive planetaries inside the track frame. The locking pins are used in order to hold the screed in a RAISED position for travel.

  1. Raise the screed to a position that is high enough to extend the locking pins.

  2. Pull the lever in order to extend the locking pins to the fullest extension.

  3. Lower the screed onto the locking pins.
