OIL FILTER HOUSING

Usage:

REMOVE OIL FILTER HOUSING

start by:

a) remove fuel filter housing

1. Remove the bolts to remove the clamps and spacers from plate (1). Remove the bolts and remove plate (1) from the engine.

NOTE: Steps 2 and 3 are for earlier engines.

2. Remove the bolt and remove elbow (2) and tube (3) as a unit from the engine.

3. Remove bolts (5) and the retainer and pull oil cooler tube (4) out of the oil filter housing.

4. Remove the bolts from adapter (6) to disconnect it from the filter housing.

5. Use tooling (A) to fasten a hoist to oil filter housing (7). Remove the bolts that hold the housing to the support and remove housing (7) from the engine. The weight of the oil filter housing 74 kg (165 lb).

INSTALL OIL FILTER HOUSING

1. Use tooling (A) to fasten a hoist to oil filter housing (1). Put the housing in position on the support and install the bolts to hold it in position.

2. Install the bolts to connect adapter (2) to the oil filter housing.

NOTE: Steps 3 and 4 are for earlier engines.

3. If necessary, make a replacement of the O-ring seal on oil cooler tube (3) and put clean engine oil on it. Push the tube in to the oil filter housing and install the bolts and retainers to hold the tube to the housing.

4. If necessary make a replacement of the O-ring seals for tube (5) and elbow (4) and put clean engine oil on the seals. Install tube (5) and elbow (4) as a unit on the engine.

5. Put plate (6), the spacers and clamps in position and install the bolts.

DISASSEMBLE OIL FILTER HOUSING

start by:

a) remove oil filter housing

1. Remove the bolts and remove cover (1) from the housing assembly.

2. Remove O-ring seal (2) from cover (1).

3. Remove ring (3) to remove retainer (4), the spring and the O-ring seal from cover (1).

4. Remove three element assemblies (5) from the housing assembly.

NOTE: Steps 5 through 14 are for later engines.

5. Remove O-ring seals (7) from housing (6) and remove the bolts to remove housing (6) from the housing assembly. The weight of housing (6) is 25 kg (55 lb).

6. Remove O-ring seal (8) from the housing.

CAUTION

Cover (10) has spring tension on it.

7. Slowly remove bolts (9) to release the spring tension behind cover (10) and remove cover (10) from the housing.

8. Remove O-ring seals (11), spring (12) and the valve from the housing

9. Remove the bolts and nuts to remove cover assembly (13) from the housing.

10. If necessary, remove pins (14) for cover assembly (13).

11. Remove O-ring seal (15) from the housing.

12. Remove plug (17) to remove valve (16) from the housing.

13. Remove adapter (18) from housing assembly (19).

14. Remove O-ring seal (20) from adapter (18).

NOTE: Steps 15 through 18 are for earlier engines.

15. Remove the bolts and remove housing (21) from the housing assembly.

16. Remove O-ring seal (22) from housing (21).

17. Remove the bolts and remove housing (23) from housing (21).

18. Remove O-ring seal (25), valve (24) and the spring from housing (23).

ASSEMBLE OIL FILTER HOUSING

NOTE: Steps 1 through 3 are for earlier engines.

1. Install O-ring seal (3), spring (1) and valve (4) in housing (2). Put clean engine oil on seal (3).

2. Put housing (2) in position in housing (5) and install the bolts to hold housing (2) in position.

3. Install O-ring seal (6) on housing (5) and put clean engine oil on it. Put housing (5) in position on the housing assembly and install in the bolts to hold it in position.

NOTE: Steps 4 through 13 are for later engines.

4. Install O-ring seal (8) on adapter (7) and put clean engine oil on it. Install adapter (7) in the housing assembly.

5. Install valve (9) in housing (10) as shown.

NOTE: If valve (9) has been installed wrong, plug (11) can not be installed correctly.

6. Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seal and install plug (11) in housing (10).

7. If pins (12) were removed, install the new pins in cover (13). Make sure they are 7 ± 0.5 mm (.275 ± .020 in) above the surface of the cover.

8. Install O-ring seal (14) on the housing and put clean engine oil on it.

9. Put cover (13) in position on housing (10) and make sure pins (12) are in alignment hole in housing (10) and the groove (slot) in valve (9). Install the bolts and nuts to hold the cover in position.

10. Install valve (15) in housing (10). Install O-ring seals (16) in housing (10) and put clean engine oil on the seals.

11. Put spring (18) in position and install cover (17) on housing (10).

12. Install O-ring seal (20) on housing (10) and put clean engine oil on it. Install housing (10) on housing assembly (19).

13. Install O-ring seals (21) on housing (10) and put clean engine oil on the seals.

14. Put the O-ring seal, spring (23) and retainer (22) in position on cover (24).

15. Install ring (25) to hold the retainer and spring in position. Install O-ring seal (26) on cover (24) and put clean engine oil on it.

16. Install three element assemblies (27) in housing assembly (19). Install cover (24) on housing assembly (19).
