Installation Procedure

1. Position the front axle under the machine.

2. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to the front axle assembly. The weight of the front axle assembly is approximately 3250 kg (7165 lb). Raise the front axle assembly to the front frame.

3. Apply Tooling (E) to the threads of the bolts prior to installation.

4. Install 16 nuts (16) and the bolts that attach the front axle to the front frame.

5. Tighten nuts (16) to a torque of 1050 ± 150 N·m (775 ± 110 lb ft).

6. Install 16 locknuts (17). Tighten locknuts (17) to a torque of 500 ± 65 N·m (370 ± 50 lb ft).

7. Position spider (15) to yoke (13).

8. Apply Tooling (C) and then apply Tooling (D) to the threads of bolts (14) prior to installation.

9. Install bolts (14). Tighten bolts (14) to a torque of 300 ± 30 N·m (220 ± 22 lb ft).

10. Connect three hose assemblies (10), (11) and (12).

11. Install hose clip (9).

12. Connect hose assembly (8).

13. Install guard (7).

14. Connect two hose assemblies (5) and (6).

16. Install cover (3).

17. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable device to front fender (1). The weight of the front fender is approximately 189 kg (417 lb). Install front fender (1) and eight bolts (2) to the front frame.

18. Repeat Step 17 for the other side of the machine. The weight of the other front fender is approximately 195 kg (430 lb).

19. Fill the front differential and final drive assemblies. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for the capacity of the front axle housing and the final drive assemblies. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil (With Axle Oil Cooler) - Change" or Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil (Without Axle Oil Cooler) - Change" for the correct filling procedure.

20. Purge the air from the braking system. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Braking System Air - Purge".

21. Check the oil level of the hydraulic system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check".

End By:

1. Remove the bucket control safety pins. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bucket Control Safety Pins - Remove and Install."

2. Install the front tires and rims. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim - Install".
