1. Clean the area around the drain plug.

2. Remove the drain plug. Allow some oil to drain into a suitable container before the sample is taken. Excessive sediment can drain away, and for a more accurate sample results. Obtain a sample in an appropriate container.

3. Install the drain plug. Check the oil level. Add oil if the level is low.

4. Send the coolant sample to an appropriate lab for analysis.
