There are several specific safety signs on this machine. The exact location of the hazards and the description of the hazards are reviewed in this section. Please become familiarized with all safety signs.

Make sure that all of the safety signs are legible. Clean the safety signs or replace the safety signs if you cannot read the words. Replace the illustrations if the illustrations are not legible. When you clean the safety signs, use a cloth, water and soap. Do not use solvent, gasoline, or other harsh chemicals to clean the safety signs. Solvents, gasoline, or harsh chemicals could loosen the adhesive that secures the safety sign. Loose adhesive will allow the safety sign to fall.

Replace any safety sign that is damaged or missing. If a safety sign is attached to a part that is replaced, install a safety sign on the replacement part. Any your dealer can provide new safety signs.

Electrical Shock Hazard (2)

This warning is located on the inside surface of the right cab window.

Know the maximum height and reach of your machine.

Serious injury or death by electrocution can occur if machine or attachments are not kept a safe distance from electrical power lines. Keep distance at least 3 m (10 ft) plus additional 10 mm (0.4 inch) for each 1,000 volts over 50,000 volts.

Engine Coolant Under Pressure (3)

The warning label is located on the inside surface of the radiator cap cover and on the overflow container on the right side of the machine.

Pressurized System: Hot coolant can cause serious burns. To open the cooling system filler cap, stop the engine and wait until the cooling system components are cool. Loosen the cooling system pressure cap slowly in order to relieve the pressure. Read and understand the Operation and Maintenance manual before performing cooling system maintenance.

Moving Parts and Flying Debris (4)

This danger label is located on the outside of the lift arms near the feller buncher saw blade.

------ DANGER! ------

The operation of the machine can cause debris to fly. Stay clear of rotating blades and moving parts during machine operation. Stop the rotation of the cutting gear before approaching the machine. The flying debris, moving parts and/or rotating blades can cause serious injury or death.


Stay clear of the felling head while the machine is operating. Before you service the felling head, lower the felling head and turn off the machine.

Hydraulic System Under Pressure (5)

This warning is located at the rear of the machine on the hydraulic tank near the sight gauge.

Personal injury can result from removing hoses or fittings in a system under pressure.

Failure to relieve pressure can cause personal injury.

Do not remove or disconnect hoses or fittings until all pressure in the hydraulic system has been relieved.

Hydraulic line may be under pressure. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for any procedures that are required to relieve hydraulic pressure before disassembly. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.

Crushing (6)

This warning is located on both sides of the lift arms near the feller buncher saw blade.

Before you service the machine or the attachments, lower the attachments to the ground. Also, turn off the power. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for more information.

No Clearance (7)

This warning is located near the articulation joint on both sides of the front frame.

No clearance for person in this area when machine turns. Severe injury or death from crushing could occur.

"Connect the steering frame lock between the front and the rear frames before lifting, transporting, or servicing the machine in the articulation area."

"Disconnect the steering frame lock and secure the steering frame lock before resuming operation."

Brake Accumulator Pressure (8)

This warning is located on the brake accumulator bracket underneath the cab.

Escaping fluid under pressure, even a pinhole size leak, can penetrate body tissue, causing serious injury, and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.

------ WARNING! ------

Hydraulic line may be under pressure. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for any procedures that are required to relieve hydraulic pressure before disassembly. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.

----------------------

Before any service to the service brakes, purge the braking pressure. Refer to the Service Manual Testing and Adjusting, RENR6159, "Service Brake System Pressure - Test".

Water Cleaning System Under Pressure (9)

This warning label is located near the filler plug on the water tank at the rear of the machine.

------ WARNING! ------

Do not remove the fill plug until the pressure in the water tank has been relieved. Personal injury may result.

This fill plug has a cross drilled hole that allows the pressure to be relieved without disengaging the threads.

Do not replace this fill plug with any other plug.

Battery (10)

This warning is located at the rear right side of the machine near the auxiliary start receptacle and at the rear left side of the machine on the battery access cover.

------ WARNING! ------

There is limited battery access. Jump starting at the battery, or improper jumper cable connections at the starter, can cause explosion resulting in personal injury.

Do not jump start the machine at the battery. Use the remote starting receptacle or jump start to the positive battery post on the starter.

If remote starting receptacle can not be used, jumper cables may be used at the starter. Always connect the positive (+) cable to positive (+) terminal of the starter and connect negative (-) cable from external source to engine block. Follow procedure from the Operation and Maintenance Manual.

Before any service to the batteries, or starting the engine with an auxiliary start receptacle, read the Service Manual. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Starting with Auxiliary Start Receptacle (If Equipped), Battery - Clean, Battery Hold-Down - Tighten, Battery or Battery Cable - Inspect/Replace".

Stay Clear of the Machine (11)

These warnings are located on the left side and on the right side of the machine.

Sawhead discharge debris may be increased in rough or hilly terrain. Heavier debris has the potential to travel greater distances. Always be aware of the flight angle of the sawhead discharge.

Avoid cutting when people, domestic animals, building or personal property are located on the discharge side of the saw. Reposition the disc saw as necessary to avoid possible damage caused by the saw discharge.

All personnel should be more than 91 m (300 ft) away from the machine before the machine is started. Maintain a distance of 91 m (300 ft) in all directions during the operation of the machine.

ROPS/FOPS Structure (12)

This warning label is located on the left side of the rear crossbar inside the cab.

Do not weld on or drill holes in the structure. Consult a Caterpillar dealer to determine this structure's limitations without voiding its certification.

Personal injury or death can result when voiding this certification.

Structural damage, an overturn, modification, alteration, or improper repair can impair the ROPS structure's protection capability thereby voiding this certification.

Do not weld on or drill holes in the structure.

To avoid possible weakening of this ROPs, consult your authorized dealer before altering this ROPS in any way. The protection offered by this ROPS will be impaired if it has been subjected to structural damage

Consult your authorized dealer in order to determine this structures's limitations without voiding its certification.

This machine has been certified to the standards that are listed on the certification plate. The maximum mass of the machine, which includes the operator and the attachments without a payload, should not exceed the mass on the certification plate.

Do Not Add Ether (13)

This warning is located on the cover of the engine air cleaner.
