System Configuration Parameters

Usage:

793B 1HL
System configuration parameters are parameters that affect emissions, power of the engine, and other features. The parameters are programmed at the factory. In most cases, the parameters do not need to be changed. You must reprogram the system configuration parameters if the Electronic Control Module (ECM) is replaced and/or you reprogram the engine rating. You do not need to reprogram the system configuration parameters if you replace the personality module. Proper values for these parameters are available on the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). Certain configuration parameters are also stamped on the engine information plate.

Note: Changing the parameters that are protected by factory passwords may cause your Caterpillar warranty to be voided. If a parameter that is protected by a factory password is changed, the change will be permanently recorded in the memory of the ECM.

Engine Serial Number

Program the engine serial number to match the engine information plate. The serial number is not programmed on a new ECM.

Equipment ID Number

The equipment ID must match the equipment's serial number. The number is stamped on the frame. The equipment ID is not programmed on a new ECM.

Full Load Setting and Full Torque Setting (FLS and FTS)

The parameters represent adjustments that are performed at the factory. These adjustments fine tune the fuel system. The values are stamped on the engine information plate. Factory passwords are required to change these parameters.

Interlock Code

The ECM stores a code number in permanent memory that is referred to as an interlock code. The interlock code identifies the correct personality module for the engine. If a personality module is replaced in an ECM or if a new flash file has been downloaded, the interlock code of the new personality module must match the interlock code from the previously used personality module. The interlock code prevents damage to the engine in case the wrong personality module has been installed.

If the diagnostic code 253-02 Personality Module mismatch is active, fuel injection is disabled and the engine will not start. This code is generated when the interlock code from the previous personality module does not match the interlock code from the new personality module. This code is also generated when the wrong ECM is installed on an engine and the correct personality module has been installed. In either case, the interlock codes do not match. Always replace the ECM and the personality module with the correct part number that is listed in the Parts Manual for your engine.
