Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement. Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine. |

- Turn the battery disconnect switch clockwise in order to turn on the electrical system.

- Engage the parking brake.

- Place the direction and speed control lever in the NEUTRAL position.

- Pull the throttle control knob outward. Pull the throttle control knob to the one-third throttle position. Lock the throttle control.

- Turn the engine start switch to the START position in order to start the engine.
- Allow the start switch to return to the center position immediately after the engine has started.
- Move the direction and the speed control lever to the LOW throttle position when the engine starts to idle smoothly.

NOTICE |
Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds. If the engine does not start, allow the starter to cool for two minutes before cranking again. The engine start switch must be turned to the OFF position before trying to restart. |

For starting the machine at temperatures between -23 to 0°C (-10 to 32°F ), use the starting aid that is described in Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Starting Aid".
At temperatures below -23 °C (-10 °F), consult your Caterpillar dealer.
