Replaceable Drawbar Wearplate Eliminates Wear On Support Assembly{7105,7119}

Usage:

Challenger 65 (7YC),
Challenger 65B (7YC),
Challenger 65C (2ZJ),
Challenger 65D (2ZJ),
Challenger 70C (2YL),
Challenger 75 (4CJ),
Challenger 75C (4KK),
Challenger 85C (9TK) Agricultural Tractors

Description of Change: A replaceable drawbar support wearplate is used. The wearplate eliminates wear on the support assembly when operating the tractor with the drawbar unpinned.

Adaptable To: The 125-5542 and 125-5543 Wearplates were effective with Challenger 65D (2ZJ1965), Challenger 75C (4KK2230), and Challenger 85C (9TK1765) Agricultural Tractors. The new replaceable drawbar wearplate is adaptable to all earlier tractors. In some cases, as outlined later, installation modifications are required. In all cases, before installing the wearplate, inspect the amount of wear on the support assembly. The wear surface on the support assembly should be relatively flat and not excessively uneven or worn in order to allow a successful field retrofit.

Illustration 1. 125-5542 Plate Installation (Standard drawbar)

Earlier tractors do not have holes provided to bolt on the new wearplate.

For the 3W-6125 Support Assembly (Standard Drawbar), position plate (1) as shown in Illustration 1. Use the two small holes in plate (1) as a pattern to mark the hole locations needed to secure the plate to the support assembly. Drill two 13.8 mm (.54 in) diameter holes, 41 mm (1.6 in) deep, and tap to 5/8-11-2B Thread, 29 mm (1.1 in) deep. Install plate (1) using spacer (3), washer (4), and bolt (5).

NOTE: An alternative that would eliminate drilling holes could be to plug weld the wearplate in place at the bolt hole locations.

Illustration 2. 3W-7235 Support Assembly rework (Three-Point Hitch)

For the 3W-7235 Support Assembly (three-point hitch) the side plates must be reworked to allow plate (2) to be set in place. See Illustration 2 and Chart B. Use the two small holes in plate (2) as a pattern to mark the hole locations needed to secure the plate to the support assembly. Drill two 17 mm (.7 in) through holes. Use spacers (3), washers (4), bolts (6), and nuts (8) to secure plate (2) to the support assembly.

NOTE: Notching and drilling rework can be avoided by trimming Plate (2) so it butts up against the side plates shown in Illustration 2. The Plate (2) can then be fillet welded in place.

Illustration 3. Spacers (7) required on "C" Series Models Only. (1,2) 125-5542 or 125-5543 Wearplate.

On Challenger 65C (2ZJ1-1964), Challenger 70C (2YL), Challenger 75C (4KK1-2229), Challenger 85C (9TK1-1764), spacers (7) should be added between the existing upper wearplate and the lower drawbar assembly to allow additional clearance between the upper and lower drawbar. See Illustration 3.
