Service Magazine; February 05, 1996; Page 8; "New Duo-cone Seal Retainer And Backing Plate Reduces Oil Leaks In The Service And Parking Brake Group" for 775B Quarry Trucks, 772B, and 776C Tractors, and 773B and 777C Trucks.

Disregard the February 5, 1996 Service Magazine article. The information in that article is superceded by an article with the title "New Seal Retainers and Backing Plate Used To Reduce Oil Leaks And Provide An Increase Face Load On Duo-cone Seals" in this issue.

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Description of Change: A new Duo-Cone seal retainer and a new backing plate are being used in the rear service and parking brake groups to reduce oil leaks. Oil leaks were possible with the former Duo-Cone seal retainer.

Adaptable To: The new 130-5406 Seal Retainer is a direct replacement for the former 7D-2889 and 124-4123 Seal Retainers which are canceled. The 124-4123 Seal Retainers were canceled due to interference with the Duo-Cone seal and should not be used. The new 130-5406 Seal Retainer and 130-7910 Plate (backing plate) are effective with 772B (64W304) and 776C (2TK90) Tractors; 773B (63W4564) and 777C (4XJ814) Trucks and 775B (7XJ299) Quarry Truck.

The 130-7910 Plate is a direct replacement for the 5T-6380 Plate which is canceled. The 130-7910 Plate, when used in conjunction with the 130-5406 Retainer, will provide adequate Duo-Cone seal clearance and increased face load to prevent oil leaks.

NOTE: The 130-5406 Seal Retainer and 130-7910 Plate must be used together to avoid interference and damage to the Duo-Cone seal.

The former 5T-6380 Plate can be reused with the new retainer if it is reworked using the dimensions in Illustration 2. The 2G-1146 Plate used in earlier machines, can be reused with the new retainer if it is modified as shown in the Illustration 3. The earlier 7D-5866 and 2G-0153 Plates can be reused when reworked using the dimensions is Illustration 4.

NOTE: The canceled parts will not be brought up to the same specifications as the new 130-7910 Plate with modifications. However, the modification will increase the face load on the Duo-Cone seal.
