SUPPLEMENT TO OPERATION & MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS FOR MACHINES POWERED Caterpillar


Starting the Engine

Usage:

Above 0°C (32°F)

1. Fasten and adjust seat belt.

2. Lower all implements and move all implement controls to HOLD.

3. Place transmission lever in NEUTRAL. Engage TRANSMISSION LOCK LEVER.
4. Engage PARKING BRAKE.

5. Turn DISCONNECT SWITCH to ON.


NOTICE

NEVER turn the disconnect switch to OFF with the engine running.


6. Move the ENGINE GOVERNOR LEVER HALFWAY to HIGH IDLE POSITION.

7. Push in and rotate START-RUN switch to START.
8. RELEASE switch when engine starts. Switch will return to RUN position.

NOTICE

Do not use excessive starting fluid during starting or after engine is running.

Do not crank engine for more than 30 seconds. Allow two minutes for starter to cool before cranking again.


1. Repeat steps 1 thru 7 in Above 0°C (32°F).

2. While cranking the engine, push STARTING FLUID CONTROL SWITCH (if equipped) and release it. If not equipped, spray starting fluid, sparingly, into the engine air inlet. Repeat until engine starts.
3. After the engine starts, continue to add starting fluid every 2 seconds until the engine runs smoothly.
