Problem
The track pins in certain 215B SA, 219, 225B, 225B LC and, 225D Excavators working in moderate to high impact applications may break prematurely. Caterpillar will participate to assure acceptable link assembly life when certain guidelines and criteria are met. This program is intended to address dealer and user concerns for failures on machines operating in normal applications, equipped with proper track shoes, and not being abused.

No participation will be considered by Caterpillar if track shows wider than 30" are installed. 2. No participation will be considered by Caterpillar unless a copy of the attached Track Inspection Form is completely filled out, including both the track serial number and track hours. The form must be retained by the dealer for future use by the dealer or Caterpillar. These forms will be requested by Caterpillar from time to time. LIMITS OF PARTICIPATION 1. 4,000 hours of operation or 3 years, whichever comes first. 2. 100% link and/or bushing wear and/or internal pin and bushing wear. REPAIR OPTION SELECTION CRITERIA Dealers must select 1 of 3 repair options according to the following criteria: Option 1 - Less than three track pins broken on machine. Option 2 - Three or more track pins broken on a machine with less than 2000 hours of operation and less than 25% link wear. Option 3 - Three or more track pins broken on a machine with over 2000 hours of operation or over 25% link wear.
Action Required
Option 1 Replace individual broken track pin(s) at the job site or at the dealer track shop. Option 2 Replace all original track pins with improved track pins. This must be completed for both link assemblies. Option 3 Replace original link assemblies with improved link assemblies.

Service Claim Allowances
List on the claim only those new parts needed to make repair authorized in this service letter. The track serial number must be included in the comments section on each claim submitted. Dealer must retain a completed copy of the attached inspection form for each claim. No participation in this Program will be possible without this inspection data which must be completely filled out. Indicate link and bushing wear in on-line claim story. Forms will be requested by Caterpillar from time to time for analysis and auditing purposes. Also, dealers can only claim on one option. Parts Disposition
