    ------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns.

To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.

Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.

    ----------------------

  1. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" in this manual.

  1. Disconnect four hose assemblies (8) from the travel brake valve. Put plugs in the ends of the hose assemblies. Plugs prevent oil loss. Plugs prevent contaminating the hydraulic system.

  1. Remove valve (6) and fitting (7) in order to allow access to the mounting bolt for the travel brake valve. Install a plug in place of valve (6) in order to keep dirt out of the travel brake valve and travel motor.

  1. Remove two socket head bolts (9). Replace the socket head bolts with two M12 threaded rods (10) that are approximately 305 mm (12 inch) long.

  1. Remove socket head bolt (5). Fasten Tool (A) and a hoist to travel brake valve and travel motor (11), as shown. Carefully slide the travel brake valve and travel motor out of the final drive and onto the threaded rods. Remove the travel motor from the machine. The weight of the unit is 61 kg (134 lb).

    NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. When two hose assemblies (5) are disconnected from the travel brake valve, oil will flow from the hose assemblies. Collect the drain oil in a suitable container. Disconnect two hose assemblies (5) from travel brake valve (3). Put plugs in the ends of the hose assemblies. Plugs prevent oil loss. Plugs prevent contaminating the hydraulic system.

  1. Remove six bolts (4) that hold travel brake valve (3) to the travel motor. Remove the travel brake valve.

  1. Remove the three O-ring seals from the travel motor.
