Shutdown procedure for Systems that are equipped with Isolation Switches that are located in the System Cabinet

NOTICE

If 24 VDC is still available, the service person should perform a "Control X" on the PC in order to brake the rotor. This will ensure that there is no power in the system upon shutdown.

Note: When this procedure is performed, do not leave the system shut down for an extended period of time. The rotor is spinning on the bottom bearing. This could cause unnecessary bearing wear. When the flywheel is spinning, the following components are energized: the bus, armature leads and fuses.

  1. Turn the appropriate MMU keyswitch to the "Bypass" position. Make sure that the MMU is in bypass mode.

  1. Open the Output Isolation Switch that is located in the System Cabinet for the appropriate MMU.

  1. Open the Input Isolation Switch that is located in the System Cabinet for the appropriate MMU.

  1. Allow the capacitor banks to bleed down for approximately 5 minutes in order to dissipate any residual energy that is in the bus, armature leads, and fuses.
