Muffler - Remove and Install

Usage:

TH210 CEC

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Raise the boom and install the boom cylinder lock. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, " Boom Cylinder Lock - Removal and Installation Procedures".
  2. Unlock the latch that secures the hood. Raise the hood. Use the strut to hold the hood in the raised position.
  3. Remove the grill. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Engine Enclosure - Remove and Install".

Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.

  1. loosen clamp (2) in order to separate exhaust elbow (3) from muffler (1) .

  1. Remove bolts (4), the washers, nuts (6) and the washers in order to remove clamps (5). Remove muffler (1) from the machine.

  1. Remove nuts (8) and the washers in order to disconnect exhaust pipe (9) and the attached insulation from the engine. Remove the exhaust pipe, gasket (7), the attached insulation and exhaust elbow (3) (not shown) from the machine.

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

  1. Position exhaust pipe (9), gasket (7), the attached insulation and exhaust elbow (3) (not shown) to the machine. Install nuts (8) and the washers in order to secure the exhaust pipe, the attached insulation and the exhaust elbow to the engine.

  1. Position muffler (1) to the machine.

  1. Position clamps (5) that secure muffler (1) in place. Install bolts (4), the washers, nuts (6) and the washers in order to fasten the clamps and the muffler securely to the machine. Do not tighten the bolts and the nuts at this step.

  1. Position muffler (1) to exhaust elbow (3). Tighten clamp (2) in order to connect the exhaust elbow to the muffler. Tighten bolts (4) and nuts (6) that were left loose in step 4.

End By:

  1. Install the grill. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Engine Enclosure - Remove and Install".
  2. Remove the strut that holds the hood in the raised position. Stow the strut correctly. Lower the hood and secure the hood in place with the latch.
  3. Remove the boom cylinder lock and lower the boom. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, " Boom Cylinder Lock - Removal and Installation Procedures".
