Usage:
Bolt-on segments are now available from the Parts Department for installation on all new general-purpose buckets equipped with Corner Guard System. Each bucket requires seven segments, one between each pair of teeth; and each segment is held onto the base edge with two bolts. Installation of the segments will increase base edge, tip and adapter life.
Because of existing holes already in the edge, only twelve new holes are required. Segment holes should be the same size as the existing adapter bolt holes and in line with the front row of holes in the edge.
It is recommended that the bucket be removed from the machine, and the holes drilled in a machine shop using a radial drill equipped with titanium-nitride-coated spade drill blade. This type of drill blade should be available from local machine tool suppliers.

Procedure For Drilling Segment Bolt Holes
(1) Remove bolt-on adapters (if equipped).
(2) Working from the top of the base edge, scribe a line the length of the bucket through the center of front adapter bolt holes (1).
(3) Place an appropriate segment on the base edge so that it is centered between any two sets of center adapter bolt holes. The line scribed earlier should be visible through the segment bolt holes. (Contact your Parts Department for appropriate segment part number.)
(4) Mark the center of each segment hole (X) on the scribed line. Repeat this procedure for each center segment location.
(5) Position an end segment (2) so that one bolt hole is directly over a front end bit hole (3). With these holes aligned, move the segment until the scribed line is visible through bolt hole (4). Mark the center of hole (4) on the scribed line.
(6) Repeat this procedure for the other end of the bucket.
(7) With a titanium-nitride-coated spade drill blade, drill the twelve holes marked with an (X).
(8) Install the segments with bolts and nuts specified, and tighten the nuts to the torque given.
